The waiting and the journey
Holidays and trips are something we look forward to with high expectations. This project stems from observing the moment prior to departure—often overlooked, yet rich in unique human dynamics.
rounded up between 2021 and 2022 across different trips, these photographs do not focus on a specific location or journey. Instead, they center on travel as a tension toward a place, as well as toward an emotional and mental state associated with lightness and rest. To reach this state, however, we must often endure strictly material, far-from-dreamlike dynamics—such as long queues under the sun as a prelude to boarding (an experience rendered even more acute during the COVID-19 health crisis).
It is therefore a reflection on waiting, expectation, and the relationship between dreams, the imagined, and the bodily reality of human existence we cannot escape.
Here, the journey is not viewed in terms of reaching a destination, but as a valuable moment in its own right. It is characterized by that suspended, dreamy atmosphere typical of in-between places—liminal spaces detached from the classic logic of time and space, of a set purpose, or of a before and after.
Existing in its own right, the journey becomes synonymous with freedom.
