Augmented Banality
Augmented Banality explores the boundary between everyday reality and the hyper-happy simulacrum of advertising. Drawing on Jean Baudrillard’s hyperreality and Mark Fisher’s capitalist realism, the series investigates how consumer culture colonizes the collective imagination through a "tyranny of positivity."
Combining original photographs of everyday objects, archival advertising images, and AI, the project stages the staged perfection promised by commercial media. Technical disclaimers intercept the visuals to subvert this illusion, asserting the right to imperfection, failure, and authentic human experience.
